SAG assisted a private-sector ownership group with testing their vision of developing a stand-alone conference facility (offering no hotel rooms) in Birmingham, AL. Members of the ownership group were regular attendees of meetings and conferences in the area and noticed a trend of steadily declining service and quality of meeting facilities that were available in the marketplace. Performing much of the initial market research on their own, the ownership group was considering developing the stand-alone conference center. To test their vision, SAG acted as a facilitator of focus groups of potential customers of the facility. The focus groups were overwhelmingly against the hypothesis.
