SAG prepared a feasibility study for a convention center to be located in Carteret County, NC. Carteret County is located on North Carolina’s Atlantic coast between the Outer Banks and Wilmington. This study analyzed the county’s ability to host larger conventions than were currently possible at existing facilities. The study included an overall market analysis, surveys of meeting planners, facility programming, estimating the development budget, projecting utilization, estimating economic and tax benefits, discussing development management alternatives, and recommending funding alternatives. Based on the analysis, SAG recommended a two-phased development of a convention center, with phase one offering 48,000 square feet of function space, and phase two expanding to 68,000 square feet. Given the existing hotel base along the beach, it was recommended the project be pursued as a public-private partnership as an expansion of an existing hotel.
