SAG prepared a comprehensive market and financial feasibility study for a convention/conference center for the City of Wilmington, NC. The phase one recommendation was for a seamless convention complex comprised of a convention/conference center with 52,000 SF of function space and a new 200 to 300-room convention hotel. The preferred site was downtown along the waterfront. Phase two was to double the exhibit hall to 60,000 SF should conditions warrant in the future. The new convention/conference center is now open and is managed by SMG. The facility offers a 30,000 SF exhibit hall, a 12,000 SF ballroom and 5,600 SF of breakout meeting rooms.
SAG is currently assisting the City with hotel developer solicitations and negotiations. A RFP for developers for the adjacent headquarter hotel was issued and the process has narrowed the bidders to two developers. A final selection is imminent and detailed contract negotiations will begin thereafter.
