Mr. Dan Fenton is an Associate Principal of Strategic Advisory Group.  A 25-year veteran of the Hospitality and Tourism Industries, Mr. Fenton is a leader in SAG’s Branding, Marketing, and Strategic planning practice.  Mr. Fenton is using his extensive expertise to support SAG clients in improving their results.  Mr. Fenton has been involved in groundbreaking market research for clients as well as visionary tourism product development.  Mr. Fenton has also led strategic planning efforts with Arts and Culture venues as part of his initial client’s support.  Mr. Fenton has developed a new approach to destination branding that has been well received by SAG’s clients.Prior to joining Strategic Advisory Group, Mr. Fenton served as President and CEO of Team San Jose.  During his tenure, Mr. Fenton guided the organization through unprecedented growth, market diversification, and a shifting economic climate, creating a unique and renowned company in 2004 that was awarded sweeping responsibility for the San Jose tourism industry.  Under his leadership, Team San Jose ran the convention center and four downtown theaters, controlling the customer’s experience from beginning to end.  The business model created seamless “one team” service by bringing arts, hotels, and organized labor groups to the table when planning meetings and events, receiving rave reviews from meeting planners.  Team San Jose became a major economic driver in Silicon Valley.  Mr. Fenton’s groundbreaking work in forging better relationships between CVBs and convention centers to better serve customers continues to receive accolades from clients, media, and peers.  His leadership in creating a Hotel Business Improvement District not only fostered more effective relationships with local hoteliers, but it also enabled Team San Jose to leverage additional resources to better promote and serve customers.  Mr. Fenton was recognized for his contribution as the driving force behind the renovation and expansion of the San Jose Convention Center project during the 2013 grand opening ceremony.  Mr. Fenton and SAG were key drivers in making this dream a reality.

During his tenure as Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) Chair, July 2009–June 2010, Mr. Fenton was committed to driving the concept that national partnerships are vital to DMAI members.  He encouraged partners such as Americans for the Arts and American Hotel and Lodging Association to work with DMAI to elevate the effectiveness of Destination Marketing Organizations and create a seamless customer experience for the benefit of meeting planners.

Prior to joining Team San Jose, Mr. Fenton was in general management and sales and marketing leadership positions with hotel companies including positions with Radisson, Amfac, and Hyatt Hotels.

Mr. Fenton graduated with distinction from Cornell University and is a Trustee of his high school alma mater, the York School in Monterey, California where he works on maintaining a tradition of excellence combined with proactive diversity.
